Introduction
What you do
You drive a set route through the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex and watch animated light displays fill open fields and tree lines. The Great Christmas Light Show keeps it simple. You pay at the gate, you follow the marked path at a slow speed, and you stay in your car while lights sync and scenes change. The park’s wide roads and clear signage make the drive smooth even on busy nights. You finish at Santa’s Village where you park, stretch, and walk through more displays, snacks, and a few kid friendly rides. You choose how long you linger, then you exit with easy access back to the main road.
This event runs from late November through December. It serves families well because you control the pace from your own vehicle. Babies sleep, grandparents stay warm, and everyone sees the lights without long lines on foot. On Village nights, you plan for extra time to park and explore the walk through area. Staff direct traffic into lots, and walkways are lit and flat. You relax because the route and operations feel predictable and safe.
How to plan your visit
Check hours and any weather notices on the official page at parks.nmb.us before you leave. Bring a card for gate payment and a few dollars for snacks or a small ride in Santa’s Village. If you want short waits, choose a Monday through Thursday slot outside Christmas week and arrive near opening. If you arrive later on a peak weekend, expect a slow but steady entry line and enjoy the display at an easier pace. Keep headlights on low and follow staff instructions to protect visibility for the cars ahead.
Pack warm layers and a blanket for riders in the back. Turn off interior dome lights while you drive the route so your photos through the glass look clean. If you plan to walk the Village, wear flat shoes and a light jacket. The layout keeps walk times short, and you return to your car through signed paths.
Why this works for you
You want a simple holiday plan that fits a range of ages and needs. This one does. You stay dry in bad weather, you control your timeline, and you add or skip the Village based on your group’s energy. Exits return you to Robert Edge Parkway fast, and from there you reach US 31 in minutes. You end the night warm, fed, and ready for bed, and you did it without complicated logistics.
